Studies on the Effects of Organic Material on the Organic Cultured Rice

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of four different organic materials on the yield and quality of organic cultured rice. Soybean cake, rapeseed cake, chicken dropping compost and rice bran compost were used. The total nitrogen of each organic material applied was 160 kg/ha. In the 2nd rice crop, the yields (average of 1998,1999 and 2000) of the four different treatments were 4158, 4110, 3995 and 4008 kg/ha, respectively. But there were no significantly different among those treatments. In the 1st rice crop, the yields (average of 1999 and 2000) of the four treatments were 6241, 6306, 6310 and 5867 kg/ha, respectively. The yield of rice bran compost treatment was lower than that the other three treatments significantly. The costs of four compost treatments were 19,995, 18,240, 58,560 and 52,560 NT/ha, respectively. The milled rice of each treatment was tasted by a group of person. They confirmed that the taste of rice treated by applied soybean cake and rapeseed cake were better than the others. From the above results, soybean cake and rapeseed cake were considered the better organic materials for produced organic cultured rice in Tainan district.
