Experiment and Improvement of Vegetable Washer

¡@¡@Based on the processes of vegetable washing by manpower, a prototype washing machine for vegetables was designed and tested for its field performance. The field test conducted in a vegetable production and marketing unit has showed that the vegetable washer was suitable for several leaf vegetables. The washing capacity was 1,200-1,500¢V per hour for green onion, 3,000¢V/hr for green garlic, and 500¡Ð600¢V/hr for Chinese amaranth, water convolvulus and rapeseed. The damage due to the washer was less then 1¢H for all tested vegetables. The cleaning rate for celery, Chinese amaranth, water convolvulus and rapeseed was 98%¡A but the cleaning rate for green onion and green garlic was 96%. The washing efficiency and cost of the washer are compared with traditional manual washing for vegetable bunched and non-bunched. The washer can reduced working hour 87.7% and 53.3% than bunched and non-bunched washing methods respectively. The washing cost can reduced 85.5% and 82.9% than that of the bunched and non-bunched washing methods respectively. The vegetable washer has passed the government performance test and has been commercially manufactured.
