1986年春於台南區農業改良場胡麻育種試驗田首次發現胡麻萎凋病病株，胡麻植株呈現黃化、萎凋、維管束褐化的典型萎凋病病徵，病組織分離、純化得到一個Fusarium oxysporum 菌株，經Koch氏法則證實此病原菌為F. oxysporum f.sp. sesami。病原菌生理測定結果顯示本病原菌之最適生長溫度為30℃，在碳素源的利用上，以Sucrose、Starch及Cellulose較佳而對供試七種氮素源的利用則無明顯差異。病原性測定結果顯示此病原菌只對胡麻具有病原性，而其他七種供試作物包括甘藍、康乃馨、豇豆、蕃薯、蘿蔔、番茄、蘆荀等不呈現黃化或萎凋現象。將供試39個胡麻品種（系）種子放置於PCNB培養基平板上，於種子表面偵測不到本病原菌；39個供試品種（系）抗病性檢定結果顯示均呈現感病性。胡麻萎凋病為本省之新病害。
Fusarium Wilt of Sesame in Taiwan

This study is the first report on Fusarium wilt of sesame in Taiwan. A typical symptom of wilt was observed in a breeding plot of sesame at Tainan District Agricultural Improvement Station in 1986. The causal organism was isolated from diseased plants and identified as Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. sesame through Koch’s postulates. Results of the pathogenicity test indicated that the pathogen is only pathogenic to sesame and nonpathogenic to cabbage, cowpea, sweet potato, carnation, radish, asparagus and tomato. The pathogen can grow between 18 and 30℃ on czapek’s medium but 30℃ was optimum. Among the carbon sources tested, sucrose, starch and cellulose were the best forits growth and no difference was observed in the seven nitrogen sources tested. No causal organism was detected on the seed surface, and no resistant variety was observed in the inoculation tests of the 39 varieties/lines supplied by the breeder of Tainan DAIS. The present Fusarium wilt of sesame is a new record of plant disease in Taiwan.
