Response of Some Corn Varieties to Surgacane Mosaic Strains in Taiwan
C. M. Tseng
The virulence of sugarcane mosaic virus strains to corn varieties was tested in the laboratory and field. The results showed that the Badila strain (SCMV-D) induced the highest infection, then the short stripe strain (SCMV-B), the fine stripe strain (SCMV-A+B), and the yellow stripe strain (SCMV-A). Among the tested 230 corn varieties (including the local 6 varieties and the introduced 224 varieties), the local white and some introduced varieties seemed to be the promising source of breeding for resistance to SCMV.
