The screening test on herbicides for direct-seeding in wet fields
T. T. Huang
From the economic points of view the direct-seeding cultivation of rice is getting more important in Taiwan in recent years because of the labor shortage in rural villages is becoming more serious since the industrialization is rapidly going on in the urban areas and attracts a big flow of the youth from rural villages but there is a well acknowledged fact the weeds problem is more serious in direct-seeding fields than in the transplanting fields. The objective of these experiments is trying to test out which herbicides could apply in the direct-seeding field for weed control. The experimental results are summarized as follows:
1. The data showed that 30 kg/ha of Saturn or Saturn-M granule performed very well for weed control when it was applied during the period from 7 to 10 days after seeding.
2. Data obtained in 1977 indicated that Machete and Basagram also gave satisfactory results. The recommended amount for Machete granule per hectare is 25 kg and applied in the period from 6~7 days after seeding. The accepted dosage for Machete or Saturn-M granule per hectare is 20 kg and applied in the times of 7~10 days after seeding. And again spray of 3l/ha of Basagram that should be diluted 200 times with water on the surface of the field at the 30th day after seeding, the water should be drained out when herbicide solution was to be sprayed.
